Miami Beach is at a defining moment. The Importance of Leadership in Miami Beach

Commissioner Alex Fernandez has led efforts to protect renters and condominium owners from predatory practices. He works to preserve the character of our historic neighborhoods and defend the public’s control over city assets. Alex has been a steadfast advocate for LGBTQ residents, ensuring Miami Beach remains a city of acceptance and dignity for all.

Bold Leadership in Challenging Times

At the July 23, 2025, Commission Meeting, Alex once again showed bold leadership by sponsoring a resolution. This resolution calls on the City of Miami Beach to formally oppose dehumanizing and violent rhetoric targeting immigrants. It explicitly condemns the so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility. The resolution states:

“A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, STRONGLY OPPOSING DEHUMANIZING AND VIOLENT RHETORIC TARGETING IMMIGRANTS, INCLUDING THE ‘ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ’ DETENTION FACILITY AND STATEMENTS BY NATIONAL LEADERS; AFFIRMING THE DIGNITY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF HISPANIC AND IMMIGRANT FAMILIES IN MIAMI BEACH; AND REJECTING LANGUAGE AND PRACTICES THAT PROMOTE HUNTING DOWN, CAGING, WRONGFUL DETENTION, OR CELEBRATING HARM AGAINST IMMIGRANTS, INCLUDING THE USE OF DEADLY WILDLIFE SUCH AS ALLIGATORS IN THE EVERGLADES.”

At a moment when state and national figures are weaponizing hateful rhetoric, Alex’s resolution sends a powerful message. Miami Beach will not tolerate language or policies that target, dehumanize, or endanger immigrants. Miami Beach stands with our immigrant neighbors. We see you. We respect you. We will protect you.

Commissioner Laura Dominguez: A Champion for Safety

Commissioner Laura Dominguez has been equally committed to preserving what makes Miami Beach a safe, vibrant, and inclusive city. Laura has championed public safety measures. These include expanding license plate readers, increasing police presence at senior centers, and securing critical infrastructure upgrades for flood mitigation and pedestrian safety. She has taken decisive action to preserve the residential character of our neighborhoods, ensuring that quality of life remains a top priority.

Environmental Resilience and Community Outreach

Laura’s leadership extends to environmental resilience. She’s championed green infrastructure, wildlife protections, and expanded sustainability initiatives like composting and solar energy. She’s worked to streamline business permitting, boost local economic activity, and bring forward meaningful cultural initiatives. These initiatives celebrate architectural heritage and support diverse local artists.

Her commitment to community outreach is evident in her initiatives expanding Pre-K scholarships. She ensures that vulnerable populations like seniors and survivors of human trafficking receive vital city services. Laura also supports LGBTQ residents. Her deep commitment to community outreach reflects a public servant who listens and delivers.

A Unified Vision for Miami Beach

Together, Alex Fernandez and Laura Dominguez form a leadership team grounded in action, not rhetoric. They are fighting for the values that make Miami Beach a progressive, inclusive, and forward-thinking city. Their combined efforts ensure that Miami Beach remains a place where everyone feels safe and valued.

The Path Forward

On Election Day, let’s re-elect Commissioners Fernandez and Dominguez. Miami Beach deserves Democratic champions who deliver results, defend our values, and always put residents first. Their leadership is essential for maintaining the integrity and spirit of our beloved city.

In conclusion, the upcoming election is not just about choosing leaders; it’s about affirming our commitment to inclusivity and safety. We must stand together to support those who fight for our rights and values. Let’s make our voices heard and ensure that Miami Beach continues to thrive as a community that respects and uplifts every resident.
