Join the Miami Beach Democratic Club’s Summer Volunteer Challenge: June 1 – September 11, 2026

Democracy depends on participation — but participation does not happen by accident. Research consistently shows that direct voter contact is one of the most effective ways to increase civic engagement and voter turnout. Studies on voter outreach have found that personal voter contact efforts, including volunteer phone banking, canvassing, and texting, can significantly increase voter turnout. (J-PAL)
This work matters even more in local and primary elections, where turnout is often dramatically lower than in presidential elections. In many local races across the United States, turnout can fall below 25%, meaning a relatively small number of voters can shape major decisions impacting schools, housing, climate policy, public safety, transportation, and civil rights. At the same time, today’s voters are overwhelmed with misinformation, political noise, and rapidly changing election rules. Many people are unsure about registration deadlines, early voting dates, polling locations, or even which elections are happening. A simple text message, phone call, or personal conversation can help voters feel informed, connected, and motivated to participate.
That is why the Miami Beach Democratic Club is launching our Summer Volunteer Challenge — a flexible volunteer opportunity designed to help keep voters informed and engaged ahead of the 2026 Primary and General Elections.
Whether you have five minutes or five hours a week, you can make a real impact right from home. Sign up here now!
How the Challenge Works
From June 1 through September 11, volunteers are encouraged to:
Send texts to voters
Make phone calls
Help share election information
Encourage voter participation
Keep voters informed about important election updates
Our goal is simple: build stronger voter engagement and help ensure Democrats are informed and ready to vote.
We encourage participants to complete 20 texts or calls per week, but this challenge is designed to be flexible.
Do more or less — it’s completely up to you. Every conversation helps.
Why It Matters
Research on voter outreach has repeatedly shown that personal conversations remain one of the strongest tools for increasing turnout and civic participation. Volunteer-led outreach is often more effective than mass advertising because it creates a direct human connection. (campaigninnovation.org)
By participating in the Summer Volunteer Challenge, you are helping:
Increase voter awareness
Build stronger community connections
Support democratic participation
Encourage turnout in both the Primary and General Elections
Even a short conversation or text can motivate someone to vote.
Volunteer From Anywhere
One of the best parts of the challenge is that you can participate from home, while traveling, or whenever your schedule allows.
You do not need prior experience. We will provide:
Instructions for texting and phone banking
Scripts and guidance
Support throughout the summer
Whether you are a longtime volunteer or getting involved for the first time, this is a great way to stay engaged.

Prizes & Recognition
Winners will be announced at our September 14 General Meeting.
Participants will earn:
Bragging rights
A 1-year club membership
An official club hat
Most importantly, you will know you played a role in helping strengthen voter outreach during a critical election season.
