Democracy starts at the local level — and one of the most important ways to strengthen civic engagement is through precinct organizing.
Miami Beach is divided into 21 voting precincts, each representing a specific geographic area where residents vote on Election Day. These precincts help organize elections, voter outreach, and community engagement efforts. The Miami Beach Democratic Club is currently looking for dedicated volunteers to serve as Precinct Captains and Co-Captains in the following precincts:
11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 36, 41, 42, 43, and 48.

A precinct is more than just a voting location — it is a community. Precinct Captains help ensure that voters in their neighborhoods stay informed, connected, and engaged throughout the year, not just during election season.
What Does a Democratic Precinct Captain Do?
Precinct Captains and Co-Captains serve as neighborhood organizers and community connectors. They help build relationships with voters living within their precinct and create continuity between election cycles.
Precinct leaders will:
Build relationships with voters in their neighborhood
Serve as trusted local points of contact and spokespeople within their precinct
Participate in Day of Actions by contacting voters in their assigned area
Share important election information, local updates, and volunteer opportunities
Help strengthen year-round civic engagement and voter turnout
Instead of outreach being done by strangers from outside the community, precinct organizing allows neighbors to connect with neighbors. This relationship-based organizing model helps create trust, consistency, and stronger community participation.
Why This Matters
Strong local organizing is one of the most effective ways to increase voter turnout and civic participation. Voters are more likely to stay engaged when they know someone in their own neighborhood who is involved and informed.
Precinct Captains help create long-term community connections that extend beyond a single election. They become familiar faces within their areas and help ensure voters have the information and support they need to participate in our democracy.
Whether you are experienced in political organizing or simply looking for a meaningful way to get involved locally, serving as a Precinct Captain or Co-Captain is a powerful opportunity to make a direct impact in your community.
