Miami Beach Dems Statement on Freedom of Speech

Yesterday the Miami Beach Democratic Club Board of Directors issued the following statement regarding freedom of speech and commissioner Kristen Rosen-Gonzalez's City of Miami Beach resolution C7G.

"The Miami Beach Democratic Club supports freedom of speech and Commissioner Rosen-Gonzalez's Resolution No. C7G to rescind Resolution No. 2024-32971 previously passed by the mayor and commission. We acknowledge the existing authority of the Miami Beach Police Department to regulate public gatherings in order to ensure public safety, as well as the need for the mayor and city commission to be expeditiously informed whenever sizable protests and other public gatherings are likely to occur. We also affirm the important role of protests in a democratic society. We agree restrictions on public gatherings must be viewpoint- and content-neutral and otherwise Constitutionally permissible."
