The Miami Beach Democratic Club unequivocally stands behind Michael Gongora for Mayor of Miami Beach. There are outside Tallahassee groups trying to muddy the waters, but as the certified Democratic Club in Miami Beach our position is clear: Michael Gongora has earned our endorsement for his longstanding commitment to Democratic values.

Time after time when Steven Meiner has sided with Tallahassee Republicans or stood on the sidelines, Michael Gongora has stood up for our LGBT community and for Miami Beach. Steven Meiner voted “no” to condemning the January 6 insurrection; he voted “no” and stormed out of the room in protest when asked to defend school board member Lucia Baez-Geller proclaiming LGBT history month; he voted “no” to condemning Florida’s 6 week abortion ban. Michael Gongora for nearly two decades has worked to strengthen our local schools through supporting literacy initiatives and helping bring the ADL’s “No Place for Hate” program, to defend LBGT rights (including becoming the first Hispanic gay man elected to public office in Florida), and always standing for a woman’s right to choose.

None of us should be naive - Tallahassee Republicans are putting a lot of money into smearing Michael with dark money attacks. As your local Democratic Club, we denounce these outside efforts to undermine Michael Gongora and will work tirelessly as your fellow community members to make sure we, not Tallahassee Republicans, choose our Mayor in Miami Beach.
