Miami Beach Has a New Congressional District for the 2026 Election
If you voted for Congress in Miami Beach in 2024, your 2026 ballot will look different. Miami Beach is moving from Florida’s 24th Congressional District to the newly drawn 25th District. Congressman Jared Moskowitz, who currently represents District 23, is running for reelection to Congress in District 25.
What changed for Miami Beach?
Redistricting determines which communities vote together to elect a member of the U.S. House. Under the previous map, Miami Beach was part of District 24, represented by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson. The new map removes Miami Beach from District 24 and places it in District 25, which now stretches north along the coast through Broward County and into Palm Beach County.
The number 25 may sound familiar, but it previously referred to a different district based in Broward County and represented by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The newly drawn District 25 includes a different collection of communities and voters.

Why was the map redrawn in 2026?
Governor Ron DeSantis called a special legislative session to redraw Florida’s congressional districts in the middle of the decade, just months before the election. His proposed map was filed on April 27, and the Legislature passed it on April 29. He signed the new map into law on May 4. That gave lawmakers and the public very little time to examine changes affecting voters across the state.
The Miami Beach Democratic Club believes this was an unethical way to redraw the districts. Voters deserve a transparent process and a meaningful opportunity to examine a map before it changes who represents their communities. The concern goes beyond the speed of the process: analyses found that the new boundaries could give Republicans an advantage in additional congressional races. Florida’s Constitution prohibits drawing congressional districts with the intent to favor or disfavor a political party or an incumbent. Opponents have challenged the map in court; whether it violates that constitutional standard is a legal question for the courts to decide.
Where does Jared Moskowitz fit in?
Moskowitz currently represents District 23, which was also substantially redrawn. He chose to run for reelection to Congress in the new District 25, where many of his current constituents now live. Florida’s Division of Elections lists him as the qualified Democratic candidate. He faces Republican Scott Singer in the November 3 general election.
Moskowitz is not yet Miami Beach’s sitting congressman. Congresswoman Wilson continues to represent Miami Beach through the current congressional term. The new boundaries determine who will represent the city in the next Congress. If Moskowitz wins, he will become Miami Beach’s representative when that term begins in January 2027.
