Feeling frustrated and angry over what is happening with ICE? Here is what you can do:
With so much going on in the world right now, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless. And that’s exactly what this administration wants. We must channel our anger and fear into ACTION. Here are some actionable steps you can take to do your part in building the world we want to see:
Call our elected officials in Congress! Contact the offices of Rick Scott, Ashley Moody and Frederica Wilson. Urge them to oppose additional funding for ICE (read the details and script in this article). You can also demand oversight of ICE and accountability for its officers. You’ll most likely just be able leave a voicemail or talk to a staffer. Constituent’s comments are included in the Legislator’s daily briefings. Be sure to say your name and zip code so they know you are a constituent.
Support the people doing the work on the ground. There are countless non-profit organizations that are fighting ICE through legal channels (Impact Fund, National Immigrant Justice Center, Immigrant Defense Project), as well as community organizations directly helping protesters and detainees. Make a donation to fund their work. Your generosity matters.
Join a protest. Use our Protest and Demonstrations group on the MBDC Members section to organize and share opportunities to protest. Mobilize is also a great place to find a protest you can join.
We must be part of the solution. Don’t let excuses or fear deter you from advocating for what’s right: ACT NOW
