Miami Beach Dems statement on the homeless community

On May 15, 2024, the Miami Beach Democratic Club board of directors released the following statement regarding Commissioner Alex Fernandez' memorandum on exploring and providing options for establishing a nighttime drop-in center for homeless persons in Miami Beach.

"The Miami Beach Democratic Club recognizes that homelessness is an enduring societal problem, and its reduction requires a multifaceted community approach. With the most recent murder of a trans person, we believe our City must address this problem. We commend Commissioner Alex Fernandez for sponsoring agenda item C4E and applaud our other Democrat Commissioners Kristen Rosen-Gonzalez, Laura Dominguez and Tanya Bhatt for supporting the referral. This item permits the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to explore options to establish a nighttime drop-in center in Miami Beach for unhoused individuals. We applaud our commissioners for beginning this critical discussion and exploring solutions to improve the quality of life for all residents. The Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee is chaired by Commissioner Laura Dominguez. We are enthusiastic about seeing the committee's upcoming findings."
