Miami Beach Democratic Club President David Geller today issued the following statement concerning the Supreme Court and reproductive rights:

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS: WE CAN’T GO BACK

Today we are reminded – with the devastating news that the Supreme Court appears poised to strike down Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose – that elections do matter.

The Court is stacked with far-right conservatives. Donald Trump’s appointments solidified that bias. His toadies in the Senate, such as Marco Rubio, confirmed his extremist picks. The consequences will hurt tens of millions of Americans, especially the poor. At a time when much of the world is liberalizing abortion rights, the right wing here – including Ron DeSantis – seems intent on pushing us back to a time of unsafe, back alley abortions. Women will suffer.

Today we must commit to a newly reenergized push to protect reproductive rights for every Floridian and American.

Elections matter. We can’t go back.
